USLA Nationals 2024
August 6-9, 2024
The USLA National Lifeguard Championships at South Padre Island for the first time on August 6-9, 2024. More than 1,000 competitors, coaches, and families will compete over four days in intense athletic competitions in the ocean and on the sand. On Tuesday, August 6, the Junior Lifeguard Championship and U19 National Team Trials bring over 300 competitors ages 9 - 18 in competitions ranging from surf swims to paddle-board races to run races and relays. Starting Wednesday, August 7, and extending through Friday, August 9, approximately 600 current and alumni lifesavers will battle for open and age group event championships and the grand prizes of large and small beach team championships.

The Island Metro (formerly the Wave) is a free shuttle system, operating daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The shuttle runs the length on the Island, stopping at beach accesses, hotels, restaurants, attractions, and other points of interest. Island Metro also has another route that crosses the Queen Isabella Causeway into Port Isabel. All of the shuttles are equipped with a bicycle rack, ADA accessible with wheelchair lifts, and offer complimentary WiFi. For the Island Metro route and schedule click here.
